Although it is January, I hope your Troop is starting to think about summer camp. Please take time to thoroughly read the 2017 Leaders Guide. It is packed with valuable information that will make your camping experience as enjoyable and as possible.
Leaders, please consider utilizing the swim pretest and mailing of your health forms at least one week prior to your arrival to camp. This will help alleviate the time consuming, often frustrating check in process.
Camp Sinoquipe is blessed by the hands on support given to improve our beautiful camp. Many of you have assisted preparing for summer camp by participating in the Adopt-A-Campsite program. This program allows us to prepare each campsite by your troop offering to set up one campsite. There are a multiple benefits for your Scouts who agree to assist with this program, including a free campout prior to summer camp. If you have participated in this program before, thank you and we encourage you to do so again. If you have not, please consider helping with this program. 2016 was a year of many improvements to Camp Sinoquipe. You are invited to visit camp to see first-hand what’s been going on.
I wish you all the best as you recruit new Scouts and prepare for summer camp. One week of camp etches lifelong memories into each Scout. That is the power of Scouting!!
Camp Sinoquipe Employment Opportunities
Would you like an opportunity to impact the lives of approximately 1,200 Scouts?
This opportunity is an awesome and rewarding experience. Please consider joining the 2017 summer camp staff. You will be joining a great group of Scouts and Scouters who are dedicated to providing an outstanding program.
The summer camp schedule begins with staff week June 11th 2017 and ends on August 6, 2017. We are looking for a motivated individuals to fill many positions. If you are 14 years of age by June 11, 2017 you may apply at a CIT “Counselor in Training”. This position is unpaid and the CIT rotates through the program areas to maximize exposure to merit badge courses. If you are 15 years of age or older by June 11, 2017 you may apply for a paid staff position.
We are looking for several adult staff positions, Trading Post staff, Dining Hall cooks, assistant Ranger staff and a Mountain Man assistant director. Interested adults should call Jack Rhodes at 717-987-3464 or Email to inquire about these positions.
There will be two staff interview sessions, March 4, 2017 and April 1, 2017 at the Council Service Center, 18600 Crestwood Drive, Hagerstown MD 21742. There will be an online sign up link found on the council website, mdcscouting.org one month prior to the March 4, 2017 interviews. Please use this link to schedule your interview date and time.

Camp Sinoquipe Stewards
Thanks to all who came out to our Nov and Dec workdays, and to the 28 Jan meeting at the Mason Dixon Council Service Center. Thank you to Maria Stewart for organizing the dinner! The Stewards are growing. We welcome Tom Gladhill, and our new Scout Executive, Rob Stone, to the Stewards!
Highlights from the 28 Jan meeting:
Upcoming spring workdays at camp: 4 Mar, 6 May, and 3 Jun. As always, show time is 8:00 AM at camp. Please wear work clothes/gloves.
Project To Do list (before 2017 Summer Camp):
1) Install the gutter system and water storage system at the Mountain Man Pavilion. Thank you to Dick Ridgley for donating the funds to purchase pipe fittings for the water collection system.
2)Construct the wood and roofing portions of a new latrine at Kerstein Lodge with help from OA Brotherhood.
3)Purchase 8 batteries and chargers to support CPAP use at campsites.
4)Purchase steel plates to cover the Dutch-oven frame at the Scout Craft Pavilion.
Project To Do List (after Summer Camp)
1)Fully construct the above ground portion of the new Karl Hummel Pavilion (above concrete and masonry)
1)The spring social/meeting is Sat, 20 May, at 6:30 PM, at Tony’s Pizza on Route 11; 14224 Pennsylvania Ave, or at Exit 3 off of I-81.
2)The summer meeting and steak cookout is Sat., 27 Aug at 2:00 PM at Lakusin Pavilion at Camp Sinoquipe. Shotgun Range and Waterfront will be open at noon for your recreation pleasure!
3)Looking way ahead, be sure to mark your calendar for the Jan 27, 2018; meeting (6:00 PM) at the Mason-Dixon Council Service Center!
Camp Sinoquipe Steward polo style shirts are still available! Please contact or stop by the council office to purchase one. The cost starts at $31 for the shirt, depending on the size. Matching hats are also available for $14.

Camp Cards, Camp Cards Camp Cards!!!! Who will sell Camp Cards???
Last years sale was amazing with getting the cards out to the Scouts and it was the best year to date in camp card sales, but we still had cards returned at the end of the sale. With your help we can make this year’s sale even bigger.
So far, this year’s card is presenting itself to be just as vibrant as last year’s Card with businesses from all over the council. We are going to order the same amount of cards as last year but we want you to work with your budgets and Scouts to figure out what you need to sell to help your scouts pay for camp and raise the budget balancing funds to finish out the year.
Please keep the camp Card sale in perspective. We know that the popcorn sale was a huge success again this year but there are many scouts that still need the extra help to pay for camp or Scouting in general. Keep in mind, Camp Cards are a simple transaction. No deliveries, No take orders, one low price and easy to carry. All you have to do is “Ask”.
Figure out what you need to sell to pay for camp or Scouting order that many cards then commit to selling them! Do a Show and Sell, take them to work or go door to door. People love to help and everyone love the price! $5. Remember your customers can recouped the cost of the card in one or two uses.
If you know of a business that would like to be on the Camp Card please let me know ASAP as space is limited and we need to get the cards to the printer.
